Quality Management System 

At Streuter Technologies, we have implemented ISO 9001, Rev 2008, as the standard and proven choice for our Quality Management System.  

Assuring that products meet requirements in a consistent basis is not an easy task.  Our Quality Policy, Quality Objectives, Specifications, Test Procedures, Test Equipment, Qualified Personnel, Test Methods, and Quality Audits must be in place in order for us to achieve excellence.  A combination of all the above is called the "Quality Management System" which must be planned around a framework, implemented, executed, and periodically evaluated.  

It is up to any company to follow a standard framework as the basis of building a QMS, however, for most companies, this is not a requirement.  Designing standard frameworks are requirements for building a systematic Quality Management System.  There are many QMS internationally recognized standards available (ISO 9001, ISO/TS16949, ISO 13485, AS9100, etc.) each targeted towards a specific market.

How Do We Define Quality?   

There are several ways to interpret or define Quality.  When we talk about quality, it's when we are evaluating a product or service.  For example, we express ourselves with terms like "it tastes great," "it's beautiful," "they provide good service," "this machine is very reliable," "this is a top of the line product," etc.  We also see companies advertise their products or services using the word "Quality".  But what is Quality?

For us at Streuter Technologies, Inc., Quality means "Conformance to Requirements."  We build our products according to customer and internal requirements.  A series of systems built upon controlled inputs and outputs that assure our customer's requirements are met every time.

So what is ISO?  How does ISO benefit a Company?

"ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 157 countries, on the basis of one member per country, with a Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, that coordinates the system.

Because the International Organization of Standardization would have abbreviations in different languages ("IOS" in English, "OIN" in French for Organisation internationale de normalisation), it was decided at the outset to use a word derived from the Greek word isos, meaning "equal." Therefore, whatever the country, whatever the language, the short form of the organization's name is always ISO."

ISO sets superior quality and procedure guidelines and is recognized among the best quality organization in the world. A company that promotes itself as being ISO Certified is a company that stands out and is recognized by others for having a well-established Quality System. In order for an organization to promote itself as being ISO Certified, a company must be certified by an accredited third party organization and be subject to periodic ISO audits.

The ISO 9000 series of certifications primarily deal with "Quality Management" This means that an organization has implemented the ISO 9000 system, complies with customer's quality requirements and applicable regulatory requirements, aims to enhance customer satisfaction, and achieve continual improvement of its performance in pursuit of these objective.

At Streuter Technologies, how is ISO 9001:2008 linked to the Quality Management System?

ISO 9001:2008 deals primarily with 5 main processes:

1. Quality Management System
a. Documentation

2. Management Responsibility
a. Planning, Internal / External Communication, Commitment, Quality Policy, and a Review System

3. Resource Management
a. Provision of Human and Material Resources

4. Product Realization
a. Production, R & D, Purchasing, and Calibration of Equipment

5. Measurement, Analysis and Improvement
a. Quality Control, Quality Audits, and Improvements

The processes above are basically broken down into sub processes, which at the end become a long list of requirements. These requirements shall be met and must demonstrate that they are well established and functional. We accomplish this by showing the "link" or "process map." The process map shows the relationship between the ISO process requirements and our internal processes used to manufacture our products. At Streuter Technologies, we have established and documented all of these processes and continually demonstrate, daily, the successful integration and facilitation of the ISO Standard into our system.
